The Shelbyville City Council voted on Thursday night to push the Remington Farms Planned Unit Development (PUD) back to the Planning Commission to ensure that all facets of the plan are up to date and ready for approval.
Discussion at a recent study session led to the conclusion that the plan should return to Planning with the second reading being moved to the Council’s regular session in May.
Councilmember Henry Feldhaus made the motion to send the plan back to Planning with a second by Councilmember Bobby Turnbow.
Turnbow inquired of City Attorney Ginger Shofner about sending the PUD back to the Planning Commission.
“This will get us down the road in the middle of the road legally?” asked Turnbow.
“Sending it back to the Planning Commission is better,” said Shofner.
Feldhaus commended the developer for attempting to make improvements “on the fly” in the PUD book and the drawings to open space as requested by the Planning Commission.
He also noted that if the Planning Commission can review the plan one more time, then they can hopefully return with a favorable recommendation and better inform the public about the needed traffic and other infrastructure commitments made by the developer.
The Council voted 4 – 1 to pass the motion, with Councilmember Josh Blevins casting the only opposition.
Once the plan is reviewed again during the next Planning Commission meeting, the plan will reappear for a public hearing period during the City Council’s Regular Session in May, which will be followed by a vote to deliver a final verdict on the PUD.
