Behind another dominant performance in the circle from Annie Prince and one huge swing from Gracie Daniel, the Community Viqueens stayed unbeaten at the TSSAA Class AA State Softball Tournament with a 3-0 shutout victory over Unicoi County on Wednesday morning.

Prince once again controlled the game from start to finish, tossing a complete-game three-hit shutout while striking out 10 and working around seven walks (four intentional).

The Viqueens collected seven hits offensively, but it was Daniel who delivered the game’s biggest moment. After a scoreless battle through the early innings, Daniel broke the game open with a three-run home run that accounted for all of Community’s offense. She finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and also added a double in a huge all-around performance.

Gracie Daniel is all smiles as her teammates celebrate after her three run homer in the Viqueens 3-0 win over Unicoi County on Wednesday morning.

Anna Haskins sparked the offense from the leadoff spot, finishing 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. Kamryn Farrell, Mattie Maxey, Haylee Webb and Prince also added hits for the Viqueens, with Webb and Maxey each doubling.

The win puts Community (33-9) just one victory away from playing for a TSSAA state championship on Friday.

The Viqueens will face the winner of Unicoi County and Adamsville on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. A win would send Community to the state championship game Friday at MTSU, while a loss would force a rematch later on Thursday with a trip to the championship game still on the line.

Community’s infield Kamryn Farrell, Gracie Daniel, Haylee Webb and Brooklyn Yoes along with pitcher Annie Prince and catcher Mattie Maxie meet in the pitcher’s circle before the start of the seventh inning on Wednesday. The Viqueens would go on to defeat Unicoi County 3-0.
