Sheriff Austin Swing shared his report from the Sheriff’s Department for March 2026 during the Board of Commissioners Public Safety Committee meeting on April 21.

The following statistics were reported by his office:

• 78,569 miles patrolled
• 850 warrants served
• 242 arrests made
• 360 investigations
• 57 traffic accidents
• 88 motorist desists
• 225 traffic stops
• 57 9-1-1 calls, 671 total

Swing also addressed questions about the Sheriff’s Department presence  in Shelbyville, noting that a large percentage of the 850 warrants served countywide happen within city limits.

“Half of Bedford County’s population is in Shelbyville,” said Swing. “That means that there’s a pretty good percentage that are served in Shelbyville.”
