Coffee County wasted no time taking control Tuesday night, erupting for five runs in the opening inning and never looking back in an 11-1 victory over Shelbyville Central in the District 6-AAAA Tournament.

The Eaglettes struggled to recover after the early deficit as Coffee County continued to apply pressure with three more runs in the second and two in the third to build a commanding lead.

Shelbyville’s lone run came in the fourth inning. The Eaglettes were held hitless in the contest but managed to manufacture a run behind patient at-bats and aggressive baserunning.

Janiya Leslie reached base twice with two walks, while Kenley Patton added a walk and stole two bases. Ja’mya Anderson drove in Shelbyville’s only run with a sacrifice fly.

In the circle, Rileah Crutcher started for Shelbyville, allowing eight runs — three earned — over the opening inning. Tenley West provided relief and settled things down over the final 3.2 innings, allowing three runs while striking out three.

Tuesday’s loss marked the end of the season for Shelbyville Central, which finishes the year with a 6-22 overall record.
